Ten Things You Might Not Know About Me

I'm reading Susannah Conway's book This I Know and she's talking about her world of blogging and she suggested to write "ten things you might not know about me" and I thought I'd give it a whirl.

1.  I always have my toenails polished.  Always.  Even though I have big feet and long toes, they are always polished, a bright color.

2.  I was adopted when I was five days old and have met both my birth parents.

3.  When I was little I really wanted to be a beautician; now that doesn't appeal to me at all.

4.  I still am disappointed that I had to have a C-section when I gave birth to Isabella.  That was eleven years ago.

5.  My grandpa committed suicide about 13 years ago.

6.  I love arranging flowers in vases, especially ones I've grown outside myself.  I can get lost in doing this and placing vases all over the house.

7.  My husband and I have been together ever since April of our senior year in high school.

8.  I can't stand sweating but I really love summertime!

9.  My favorite animal is the giraffe.

10.  I really miss my grandma who told really great stories about my dad and his brother pulling pranks when they were younger.  She just brought these stories to life even though I asked her to tell me the same ones over and over.

Well, a few of those put a bit of a lump in my throat, but it felt good to reveal a bit more about me and what has shaped me as a now 40-year-old woman who still feels like a girl inside.  If you'd like to share ONE thing most people don't know about you, share it please.  Only if you feel comfortable though.  Thanks for visiting today.

I am leaning more and more toward this book!
One thing you did not know about me: I used to suck my tongue to lull myself to sleep (yes, tongue, not thumb) - until about 5 years ago and still catch myself doing it once in a while if really tired or sick. :-)

    1. Oh, Renee, that is so sweet seriously - I've never heard of tongue-sucking:) Hey, if it's soothing to you, why not?

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Wow...19 is young--I was 23 when I got married which some of my friends that was really young at the time too. How old are those step-daughters now?

Thanks for sharing this with me!

    2. The oldest would be 48, except that she died of melanoma at 42, the other will be 44 this year, but for all intents and purposes, she has nothing to do with us...her mother poisoned her against us at a young age.

  3. Great post Jill. Since we're talking about pretty polished toenails, I only keep my polished in the spring and summer. Fall and winter, they go naked!

    1. Thanks Ann Marie:) I think most people are like you--only polishing them in warm weather. I think because I don't like my long toes if they have a bright shiny color on them, to me they look a little better, so they are always polished!

  4. Here is one thing about me- I always wanted to act. But I can't sing a lick. Not even Happy Birthday! So I gave up on that dream because I could never play Eliza Doolittle if I can't carry a tune ;)

    1. Great dream...I think it would be great to be up on stage like in Broadway for musicals as well but I was always too shy and I can't sing either! Thank you for sharing this, Ursula!

    1. Wow! My brother who is also adopted had a mother who was 16. Mine was a bit older (22) but still decided it would be best for me to live with a family with two parents. Thanks for sharing this personal part of you!

  6. This is great Jill! I'm enjoying everyone's comments as much as your post;). I'm racking my brain to think of something to share...well, in addition to deep breathing (not snoring) while I sleep, I talk in my sleep. Almost nightly. My husband gets creeped out by it sometimes because he says it's in a creepy, different voice than my own.

  7. I love this idea! What a great way for your readers to know you better. I, too, ALWAYS have my toes painted. One of my mother's brothers committed suicide, also. But in her era, everything was always hush hush. It was only over time I got bits and pieces of the story.

    1. Thanks for sharing this similarity, Carol...my grandpa's dad also committed suicide as well so obviously there's some depression in the family, but it was never ever talked about. It's so sad that it was hush hush like you said.

  8. This is great, Jill! Thanks so much for sharing. The thing I usually share about myself that not everyone knows is that I can whistle really really loudly. Like a farm hand. I like it.

    1. I love it Lori! I can just hear you whistling those kids in to get moving! We had a female principal a few years back who could use her two fingers and really belt out a whistle--I don't have a clue how that's done. Thank you for sharing today!

  9. What a brave thing to do, sharing this with us and also giving yourself ownership of you own life, what came, what you did, and what you now will go with doing....How wonderful! I'm in awe...
I am one of those people who does not understand why God told the Stork to drop me off in my family...it has not been good...and it does not seem to stop....The present with my grown children and I is wonderful though....somehow I managed to Stop the Abuse cycle for the forward generations...I have lost years of my life to abuse, and I would like to help others do damage control in terms of their own self esteem, and their relationships...Abuse is the "gift that keeps on giving". But it's a travesty. I was a "Victim Advocate" for a Rape and Domestic Violence group for several years....it empowered me. Your Fly girl Friend, Rhonda

  10. Such a great post! So warm and authentic... Hmmm, one thing people don't know about me is that I'm madly in love with my BF and have always known he was the one for me (I've known Superman since I was 18 years old, that's 25 years, and we used to date back then, reconnected 7/8 years ago and 5 years ago he left sunny California to move to NYC to be with me).

    1. Thanks for sharing this, Lori. My hubby and I have been together since he was 17 and I was 18 so we have a similar history together as you and your Superman:)
