Lily of the Valley - Takes Me Back

I'm really enjoying participating in Lori Moon's May Flower Challenge because everyday I get to visit other bloggers' beautiful posts filled with flowers.  Yesterday as we picked our daughter up from a sleepover I noticed her friend had tons of lily of the valley under some pine trees.  Had to pick some of course!

I've loved these flowers ever since I was a little girl; the smell takes me back to being young and running around with the neighbor girls.  We don't really have any shady spots in our yard so I've never planted them, but I really really would love to have some in our yard instead of "stealing" them from other yards!  Isn't it odd how the scent of flowers can send you back to an earlier time?  That's what lilacs, peonies and lily of the valley do for me.  Takes make back to being young, much more carefree and pretty much clueless about what growing up would really be like once I got there.  How about you?  What flowers take you back in time? Make you just say "ahhhh"?

  1. Love Lilies-of-the Valley, but the one that takes me back are peonies. My parents literally had a flower garden with a walkway that went around and through. It was awesome. I remember all the peonies they had and they were so big and full of color until they fell down hit the ground. BTW, Congratulations on MMM today!

    1. Hi Carol. Thanks for stopping by. Our neighbor (when I was little) Marion had tons of peonies too and there's just something about these flowers that bring back amazing memories. I'm glad to hear you have similar ones as well. Yes, it's too bad they don't last all summer and that they get heavy and fall over. We have to enjoy them the short time they are here!

    1. Thanks Mary! I actually edited the photo slightly in PicMonkey.com where I added the border.
