Bloom True with Flora Bowley Here I Come!

A few years ago I discovered some paintings by Flora Bowley online somewhere, not sure where, not sure when, but I was INSTANTLY drawn in by them.  I had never seen anything like her style before- I couldn't even explain them to people when I tried.  They are vibrant, they are abstract, they are deep...I still don't know if I can explain them properly.  They are free, layered, intriguing...I feel like I'm not doing her artwork justice, but those are some of the words that pop into my head.  I dreamed of meeting her and now I'm finally going to meet her AND paint with her!
She is coming to Wisconsin this Friday for a Bloom True weekend workshop.  So many of her workshops as well as other artists' workshops never seem to come to Wisconsin, so I AM THRILLED.  I did find out that Flora is from Wisconsin, so perhaps that's why she's coming.  It's going to take place in a beautiful farmhouse on 120 acres of land...it's going to be amazing I just know.  This is my very first art retreat with an artist I admire.  I really can't believe I get the opportunity to do this.  Stay tuned...I will be sharing some pictures and my experiences after I return.

I'm hoping to get some new ideas and to learn to paint more freely and not think so much while I'm creating.  I hope Flora can teach me to trust myself in my artistic process.

Bloom True Here I Come!

I've admired Flora Bowley and her work for a while now.  Not even sure where and when I first discovered her amazing work, but I was mesmerized right from the start.  Her paintings are so free and so interesting with all their layers and almost hidden pictures throughout.  I was originally thrilled that she was coming out with her first book.  Yay!  I absolutely love colorful books from my favorite artists, like Kelly Rae Roberts and Christine Mason Miller and now I will have one from Flora Bowley too for at-home, anytime inspiration.

As far as her workshops go, it seemed like she was always teaching in some faraway place like Bali, Mexico or Australia.  Places I just can't get to right now due to finances.  I had almost given up on painting with her when an email from her said she was teaching an e-course.  I was super super thrilled and instantly registered and paid with paypal.  The minute after I did that I thought I'd just browse through her in-person workshops and even said to myself, "not Wisconsin."  As I scrolled down the list I saw Valley Ridge Art Studio in Muscoda, Wisconsin.  My heart skipped a beat I think.  I started shaking. What!!??  I quickly emailed her and asked if I could cancel the e-course because I would so rather paint with her in person.  Not even thinking I'd hear back from her.  Well, she replied within five minutes and took care of it.  The rest is history.  I don't want to go on about every single step of this journey of signing up for her workshop, but this Saturday, I registered and I am going to paint with and learn from Flora Bowley herself, in person.  My husband said he's never seen me so excited.  Believe me I was flying all morning after getting into the workshop.  I even went nuts cleaning our bedroom and bathroom because I was in such a great mood, full of energy.

Now I just have to wait nine months till this dream-come-true weekend finally gets here.  I can't wait!  You'll definitely hear more about it when it happens.  Thanks for stopping by today.

I'm Loving!!! Flora Bowley

Heal24x24

Right now I'm loving, LOVING, the artist Flora Bowley.  Below is one of her new paintings.  Aren't the colors just amazing?  I truly would love to have such beautiful creative talents.  I would also love one of her beautiful, big canvases on one of my walls.  I visit her blog "Bloom True" quite often just to see if she has any new creations posted.  They just speak to me.  They wow me.  They mesmerize me.  I would love LOVE to take one of her workshops but don't know if I can swing it financially.  But, wow, would I love to be in her presence and learn from her.  For now, I guess I keep checking out her amazing paintings.
